Self Care Is NOT Selfish!

Hello!

I love watching Schitt’s Creek. No matter how many times I watch it, I still laugh. The pic above, I believe, would read better as “a WOMAN puts on her own mask first”.

This episode had me laughing. I have used the example of when on a plane, put on your own mask first before you attempt to help others - we must take care of us before we can take care of others. Never have I heard it used as Moira did on Schitt’s Creek - If airplane safety videos have taught me anything, David, it's that a mother put her own mask on first." - Moira. Leave it to Moira for her own interpretation!

Enough about Schitt’s Creek...

Let’s shatter the misbelief that self care is selfish. IT ISN’T! It is so far from selfish

Self care is essential. Self care allows you to keep your cup full so that you can pour yourself into caring for others, taking care of your home, managing all things related to your career, being there for your friends and family. If you just give and give and give all day long without taking the time to replenish for yourself, you are left feeling depleted, fatigued, irritable, burnt out.

Self care allows you to replenish yourself and your resources. Self care allows you to decompress so you can be re-energized. Self care provides for you so you can keep going. Self care allows you to take care of you.

Self care can help keep you healthy, both physically and mentally. Self care can help you to prevent burnout.

Are you burnt out? So many are right now. It’s been a stressful 16 months. As things are slowly down and opening up, the impact of this past year or so is hitting people hard.

I invite you to join me on Thursday, May 27th for my Free Masterclass on Recovering From Burnout - Recognizing, Preventing, and Avoiding. Here is the link for more information. Let’s learn to take better care of ourselves so we can be the best version of ourselves.

Take care of you!
