Who Taught You To Doubt Yourself?

I've been thinking a lot about the questions women ask themselves.

• Why can't I be more disciplined?

• Why can't I just be happy?

• Why can't I control myself?

• Why am I not further ahead?

• What's wrong with me?

But what if those are the wrong questions?

What if the better question is:

Who taught me to doubt myself in the first place?

This week is Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

I've spent over 30 years working in the eating disorders field, primarily with women - sitting with them, advocating for them, and witnessing how early and how deeply self-doubt takes root.

What I have seen again and again is this:

It's not about the food.

It's about control.

It's about survival.

It's about trying to feel safe in a world that constantly evaluates - and often devalues - women's bodies, choices, and worth.

Many women have learned early that they are safer being “smaller” - not just physically, but emotionally, socially, and energetically. But this isn't just about size or restriction; women of all shapes and experiences carry the weight of these messages

A few truths that matter:

• You cannot tell who is struggling by looking at their body.

• High-functioning does not mean healthy.

• Diet culture has normalized disordered thinking.

• Shame fuels the disorder - not healing.

• Eating disorders are the deadliest mental health illnesses, second only to opiate overdoses.

But beneath all of it is something quieter and more pervasive:

Doubt.

Doubting your hunger.

Doubting your body.

Doubting your anger.

Doubting your intuition.

Doubting your worth.

A woman disconnected from her body is easier to manage.

A woman who trusts herself - her hunger, her instincts, her voice - is harder to silence.

And that is not a flaw.

That is strength.

In my Clarity Sessions, we are not doing therapy. We are not diagnosing or treating. We are looking clearly at the beliefs and patterns you've absorbed and asking:

• What is actually yours?

• And what was handed to you?

This is the final week to book a 50-Minute Clarity Session at $111 before the rate shifts. If you desire one of these limited Clarity Sessions, you can book yours here.

If something in this email stirred you, that matters.

You do not need to shrink to be acceptable.

You do not need to override yourself to be loved.

You do not need to doubt yourself to belong.

You are allowed to take up space - fully, unapologetically.

Take up your space,

xo, Denise
